2010 Grrreat Lakes Open
Tournament Report by Eugene Brumley
Seth Homa repeated as the Grrreat Lakes Open Champion by taking clear first with 4 1/2 of 5. Eric Fischvogt topped the list of runners-up with 3 1/2. Also with 3 1/2, Dr. Tim McGrew and Matt Hassen tied for the top Expert spot, while Ratko Bojanovic and Daniel Parmet took the top U2000 honors. Three points were necessary for both the U1800 and U1600 prizes, won by Edward Song and Jalen Wang. Chief Tournament Director Jennifer Skidmore pointed out that the results by Song and Wang were both “fantastic.”
“I was hoping for 60 in the adult sections, but I got 60 overall counting the Scholastic section. And I won’t complain about that,” commented Ms. Skidmore.
The Reserve section winner, DeWayne VanHorn, also repeated as a Great Lakes Reserve Champion with 4 1/2. Forrest Reddick, John Griffin, and Skandi Palani shared 2nd place with 3 1/2. Also with 3 1/2, Logan Cross and Chandler Creech earned first for Sections D and E, respectively. The U1000 prize was shared by Haotian Jiang and Joseph Lawhead, each with 1 1/2. Matt Moerdyk scored 2 points to capture the Unrated section.
Syed Arbab won Saturday's Scholastic section ahead of nine other players.
