On July 19, the Spring Lake District Library hosted a scholastic chess tournament. Twenty-eight players entered the event and were divided into three sections.
Pradeep Madduri and David Lowing tied for first in the Steinitz section, which had the strongest players. Pradeep took the first place trophy on tiebreaks. (This section was USCF-rated.)
Tanner Hoag cruised to victory in the intermediate Lasker section. He finished with a perfect score. Marshall Bailey finished with four wins and took second place.
In the Capablanca section, Joshua VanderMeulen finished first with a perfect score, a point and a half ahead of second place finisher Arno Riolo.
Bill Werner did an excellent job directing the event, with the able assistance of Spring Lake District Library's own Lisa Donner. Full results for each section are shown below.
